Gonstead Adjusting Equipment

Gonstead Adjusting Equipment

Our goal at Kaplan Chiropractic is to locate the vertebra that is causing nerve pressure, called a subluxation in chiropractic terminology, and restore it to normal function. We do this by hand, with a gentle thrust specifically on the bone we want to move, i.e., an adjustment. The patient’s position for the Gonstead adjustment is of paramount importance, which is why we use equipment designed for just that purpose.
The Cervical Chair has a back that folds down so I can examine the patient while seated. Here is where we palpate the spine statically and in motion, visually inspect for swelling and muscle changes, and check temperature differences. This is also where we adjust the cervical spine. The Gonstead cervical adjustment is performed with the patient seated, with no rotation of the neck.
The Pelvic Bench is primarily where we adjust the low back or pelvis. The height of the table is adjusted to my height, so I can be in the proper positon to perform an adjustment. The first thing we do when a patient lies down is ensure that they are in the proper position to receive an adjustment.
The Hi-Lo Table is great because all the patient has to do is step on to the table while it is in an upright position and they are in the perfect position for an adjustment when the table is gently lowered. The middle section can be lowered making it a great place to adjust pregnant women, even the ones carrying twins! We primarily adjust the middle and upper back on this table, although we can also adjust the low back and even the cervical spine here.
The Knee Chest Table looks funny, but is the most versatile. Here we can adjust any portion of the spine, from the upper neck to the sacrum. It is also a great portable table, in case I need to travel.
Which adjusting table we decide to use depends on the condition of the patient, the location of the misalignment we are going to correct, and the patient’s body type. Having different options for patient positioning allows me to adjust patients of all ages and body types with great specificity.
